This home is situated on a bush clad section with very little outdoor living space. The owners approached us as they had decided to re-build and extend their upstairs deck, and wanted to cover part of it to maximise its usability. It was important that they had protection from the sun and rain, and could extend their living space. Being surrounded by trees they were concerned about the light reduction of the roofing material. They had looked at other options – including polycarb sheeting, but aesthetically they preferred the look and feel of the PVC cover and were satisfied with the minimal reduction of light into the area.
As can be seen in the photos, this house had a stepped gutter line which had to be factored into the design. Normally in this situation we would follow the gutter line and create a stepped rail, but in this case we elected to extend the canopy over the extra roof line. Technically this was an easier design, and more cost effective. Special brackets and connectors had to be designed to accommodate the canopy roof over this section of the house.
